Due to the bloodshed massacre of people in Sardasht and the vastness of catastrophe, this day was named "the Day of Struggle against the Use of Chemical and Bacterial Weapons".
Chemical bombardment of Sardasht was the violation of 1925 Geneva Protocol which prohibits the use of chemical and bacterial agents in war. Chemical attacks of Iraq against Iran residential areas occurred more than 30 times which bombardment of Sardasht with mustard gas was one of the main ones.
